ABOUT ME

My name is Katie Taylor and I am a May 2018 graduate from the University of South Carolina with a bachelor of arts in public relations and a minor in international relations. The work represented in this online portfolio represents the key insights I developed during my personal reflection as part of graduating with leadership distinction in the professional and civic engagement pathway.

When I arrived at the University of South Carolina as a sophomore, I could not easily define public relations or leadership. Three years later, I have found my passion in communications and consider myself an accomplished leader on both my college campus and in the internships that I have completed during my time as a student. However, following graduation, I will be moving to Chattanooga, T.N. to work for an insurance company completing work entirely unrelated to my undergraduate degree. As you delve into my key insights, I believe it will become clear why this decision was the right move for me. That being, I have a desire to learn more and beyond my current breadth of knowledge and the understanding that to reach an end goal, the path is not always straight or clear.

With that being said, my professional goals are still unclear. Since my first management course, I have been interested in organizational leadership and structure and the path an organization should take to reach its greatest success. With that being said, I plan to use the first few years of my career to determine whether I will find my greatest personal success in working in my field of passion, which is communications, or if expanding beyond that, like I am choosing to do in my first job, will lead me to my end goal.
